How to come to us Viareggio and the Versilia area are greatly served by the Italian highway network and it is quite simple to reach this location from ay part of Italy, and consequently, also from abroad. When coming from Genoa and the Italian Riviera one can reach this area by following the A12 South to the exit Viareggio-Camaiore for Southern Versilia. When coming from Milan it is necessary to follow the A1 to Fidenza. From here it will be possible to access the A12 (called The Cisa) and follow the directions for La Spezia. Once in La Spezia one will be able to access the A12 South to the exit Viareggio. When coming from Florence it is possible to proceed on the A11 and reach Lucca. From here reaching Viareggio will be quite simple thanks to a confortable highway junction. When coming from the Triveneto area, one will be able to catch the A4 Milan-Venice, reach Brescia from where one will be able to access the A21 in the direction of Cremona and then follow for Parma where one will be able to access the A1, reach Parma and then proceed on the Parma- La Spezia. Once in La Spezia it will be possible to enter the A12 South to the exit Versilia for Northern Versilia (Forte dei Marmi, Marina di Pietrasanta, Pietrasanta, Seravezza, Stazzema) and the exit Viareggio-Camaiore for Southern Versilia.
BY TRAIN Viareggio, the principal train station in Versilia, is on the Turin-Genoa-Rome route and is served with long-distance trains, and, connects with the fractions of Torre del Lago Puccini and Massarosa, via the Viareggio-Florence line. The other train stations in Versilia are the ones of Capezzano Pianore for the Camaiore area, Pietrasanta, and lastly the Forte dei Marmi-Querceta station, that, with the afore mentioned areas, also connects to the mountainous areas of Seravezza and Stazzema.
BY AIRPLANE For those who want to arrive in Versilia from abroad, or for those who want to travel by plane, the nearest airport is Galileo Galieli in Pisa, which is served by a great number of international routes. Pisa is about 25 Km away from Versilia , which can be easily reached by both bus and train. For those who are interested in visiting Versilia from the sky, 5Km away from Forte dei Marmi, in Cinquale, there is a small airport that also offers an airtaxi service.

BY BOAT Reaching Versilia by boat, the ideal landing-stage is the one offered by Viareggio's harbour with more than one thousand mooring spots and by its famous Darsena, where, every year in May, the VIareggio-Montecarlo-Viareggio race begins. As it is pointed out in the Nautical Charter of the Idrographic Institute of the Genoa's Navy 909/28, this location has a geographical position of 43° 51' of Latitude North and 10° 15' of Longitude East. The carnival of Viareggio is a carnival event yearly held in the Tuscanian city of Viareggio, in Italy. It is considered amongst the most renowned carnival celebrations in both Italy and Europe. Its main characteristic is given by the parade of floats and masks, usually made of paper-pulp, depicting caricatures of popular people, such as politicians, showmen and sportsmen; the parade is held on the Viareggio avenue located alongside the local beach.

The carnival continued to gain popularity within the years, and in 1949 a football youth tournament, called Torneo di Viareggio, was first organized as a collateral manifestation. The official mascot of the Viareggio carnival is the burlamacco, first depicted in 1931 by Uberto Bonetti. Since 2001, all the floats are built in an apposite seat, called cittadella del Carnevale (Carnival citadel located on the northern side of the Viareggio city territory).
